The secrets of good brand design

Brand, no matter how big your business, is important. It helps an audience identify you and it helps you stand out from the cluttered crowd.

It influences the way people view your business too, so if you don’t get it right, you could be pushing custom away.

Here are the top secrets of good brand design.

Know your TA

You’re designing a brand image for your target audience, so the first thing you should do is make sure that you know exactly who your target audience are. How old are they? What do they like to do? Are they predominantly male or female?

The more you know, the more appealing you can create your design.

Consistency

You don’t want to confuse your audience with your brand do you?

So many businesses are inconsistent with their brand design. It should feature the same colours, it should appear across all media, and it should look the same every time.

Your message

A brand image should portray a message.

Think about Apple for a minute – probably one of, if not the, biggest company on the planet. Their branding is simple. Why? Because their products are simple to use.

They convey to potential customers their simplicity through their branding.

Think carefully about your message and come up with ways to say it in your imagery. Work in finance? Signify trust and reliability?

Stick to simple

Over complicated designs are a turn off. If there’s too much to read or think about, people will get bored and likely forget it. So keep everything you do as simple as possible. Don’t use too many colours. Don’t use too many images. Choose a font that’s easy to read.

Simple, simple, simple.

Quality is key

If you use imagery that looks bad, it reflects poorly on your business. Don’t be afraid to splash some cash on quality pictures. The higher quality the better. They’ll shed your brand in a positive light.
